Abstract
The term opioid is used to designate a group of drugs .that are, to varing degrees, opium-or morphine-like in their properties. The opioids are employed primarily as analgesics, but they have many other pharmacological effects as well.Opioids interact with several closely related groups of receptors, and they share some of the properties of three families of neuropeptides, the enkephalins, the endorphines, and the dynorphins.
